Dental plaque is a biofilm: a thin layer of bacteria that forms again every day on teeth, gums and implants. If it is not removed, it hardens into tartar.
This biofilm is the main cause of tooth decay, gum inflammation (gingivitis), periodontal disease and infections around implants. Even with good brushing, some areas remain hard to reach, so regular professional cleaning is essential.
Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a professional cleaning protocol developed by EMS, a Swiss company based in Nyon. The idea: make the biofilm visible with a disclosing agent, then remove it gently with a mixture of air, water and very fine powder (AIRFLOW®).
Ultrasonic instruments (PIEZON®) are then used only where tartar remains. The result: less scraping, more comfort and a more thorough clean.
